Christopher D. Heeren, 44, of Hendricks, MN, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD following a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Christopher Daniel was born in Dell Rapids on August 19, 1976 to Luann (Hildebrandt) Lunt and Daniel Heeren. He attended school in Flandreau where he was active in football and track & field as a runner and talented pole vaulter. He graduated from Flandreau High School in 1994. Following graduation, he attended South Dakota State University for a short time before embarking on his professional journey. He spent many years working at Bayliner in Pipestone, Brown & Sanger in Sioux Falls, Daktronics in Brookings, and Kirkvold’s in Hendricks. Most recently, he worked for the Post Office in Brookings.
Chris had a zest for life and adventure. He discovered his love for animals and the outdoors growing up near his grandparents’ farms. He had the kindest heart and an “others first” attitude. He had an infectious laugh and an ability to make friends with neighbors and strangers alike. He loved nature and the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, golfer and loved taking his bikes out for whatever adventure he had in mind. He loved sports and was a lifelong Boston Red Sox, Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Football fan. He was a gifted dog trainer and was well known for having the best-behaved dogs around. His greatest loves were his fur babies Murray, Cain and Chili. Despite a life of activity and a focus on healthy living, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August 2019. His will to beat it never wavered.
Grateful for having shared his life: his fur baby, Murray; his parents: Luann (Lee) Lunt of Brookings and Daniel Heeren of Dell Rapids; his brother: Tony (Angie) Dooley of Brookings; his sisters: Stephanie (Erik) Standish of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Sandra (Nathan) Williamson of Summerset, SD; nieces: Alexis Dooley, Angelina and Skylar Williamson, and Isabelle Sprecher; nephews: Cameron and Bennett Standish, Logan Williamson and Ethan Tesch; his special aunt: Linda (Hildebrandt) Werner; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, classmates, and coworkers.
Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don and Delores Hildebrandt, Walt and Helen Heeren, and Thelma Lunt; his aunt, Cindy (Lunt) Steinhoff; uncles Randy Hildebrandt and Mike Werner; and his fur babies, Cain and Chili.
Memorial Service was held October 13, 2020 at GracePoint Wesleyan Church, Brookings.
