Carol G. Shaw, age 75 of Annapolis, MD, passed away Monday, September 23, 2019 from cancer with her daughters at her side.
Carol Gwen was born to Gladys and Ray Shaw in April of 1944 in Canova, SD where she grew up. She graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1967 with a master’s in business education. She then taught bookkeeping, shorthand and typing in Klamath Falls, OR, Willow Creek, MT and Three Forks, MT. She left teaching to raise her three daughters, co-owned a clothing store, and did accounting and office management for a radio station, compounding pharmacy and the Bozeman city planning department. She left Montana in 2002 and returned to South Dakota to be near her mother. While here she worked as a bookkeeper for the Moody County Conservation District.  In 2005, she moved to Phoenix, AZ and worked for the Phoenix Symphony. Longing for green landscapes and cooler weather, she moved to Annapolis, MD in 2013 to work for Annapolis Harbor Master and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
She was known as a very caring and loving soul who always had time for those in need. She was legendary with her sewing skills and also did a lot of volunteering, most notably at Maryland Hall Performance Center, Ford’s Theatre, Washington’s Mount Vernon home and at the National Cherry Blossom Festival. She loved to travel with friends and family across the United States and abroad.
Carol is survived by four daughters: Lori, Teri, Heidi and Judi; four grandchildren; her little dog Indy and many friends. Her generous nature extends to her passing in that she donated her body to scientific study. Private ceremonies in Montana and South Dakota will be held when her ashes are returned to her family. Donations requested for Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, Wellness House of Annapolis. Full memorial at www.forevermissed.com/carol-gwen-shaw.
