Carol A. Parsley

Carol Anne Parsley, 84, of Flandreau, SD, passed away Monday, August 5, 2019 at the home farm under hospice care surrounded by her family.

Carol was the third of six children born to Harold and Ethel (Carman) Varns on April 5, 1935 in Egan, SD. Her family moved to Flandreau, SD, in 1939 and she graduated from Flandreau High School in 1953. She played the tuba and was in All-State Band for four years and All-State Chorus. Carol married Wayne Parsley on October 3, 1953 in Flandreau. They lived in Flandreau and in 1957 began farming in Blinsmon Township and then moved to a farm in Alliance Township in 1964. Wayne and Carol especially enjoyed ballroom dancing on the weekends. Wayne preceded her in death August 11, 1993. Carol moved in to Flandreau in the fall of 1995. She was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. Carol enjoyed music, weaving, quilting, gardening, and watching Wheel of Fortune and the Antique Roadshow. She loved to serve at church and taking communion to shut-ins; liked socializing with friends of all ages, and was genuinely interested in what people had to say. Carol loved her family and would stay up till all hours, relishing their company; she was afflicted w/FOMO (fear of missing out).

Carol is survived by eight children: Denis (Susan), Pipestone, MN; Colleen Parsley (Frank Perez), Denver, CO; Kevin Parsley, Sioux Falls; Marty (Rita) Parsley, Flandreau; Maggie (Steve) Holloway, Denver; Matt Parsley, Scottsbluff, NE; Mary (Cliff) Gile, Brandon, SD and Bill (Kim) Parsley, Archbold, OH; 32 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and four siblings: Elaine (Ron) Wingert, Sioux Falls; Ward (Lorraine) Varns, Farmington, MI; Joan (Joe) Ahlers, Sioux Falls; and Paul (Donna) Varns, Minneapolis. Carol was preceded in death by her husband Wayne; three grandchildren; and her sister Kaye.         

Mass of Christian Burial was August 8, 2019 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau, with burial in the church cemetery.  www.skrochfc.com
