Cardinals split over week; now 1-5

Drew Weber’s eight inning start along with some timely two out hitting allowed the Cardinals to crack into the win column.
They defeated the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks, 6-3.
Weber cruised through seven innings before working through the eighth to earn the win. He struck out nine Wood Ducks, walked two, and allowed three earned runs. John Gassman pitched 1/3 of an inning before Aiden Ladd came in in the 9th to earn the save with the final two outs. Jake Patterson back picked a runner on third base from the catching position to end the game.

Patterson had a three hit night with two doubles and scoring two runs. Ben Ihrke, Bret Severtson, Ladd, and Jordan Gesling all two hit games. Severtson scored two runs with a double and a walk while Ladd drove in two runs with a double. Gesling also added two runs batted in.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 6-0 lead through four innings before the wheels fell off in the 5th losing to Dell Rapids PBR, 11-8.
PBR plated seven runs in the frame off of two hits, a walk, and four Flandreau errors. Bret Severtson started on the mound, going five innings, allowing seven runs, two of which were earned. Flandreau regained the lead at 8-7 in the top of the 7th inning before allowing the final four runs for the loss. Kasen Grengs was the pitcher of record with Aiden Ladd also coming in relief.
Ladd was a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate with three doubles, three RBI, and a run scored. Ben Irhke’s 5th inning two run home run accounted for one of his three runs scored and his two RBI. Jake Patterson was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
The Cardinals traveled to Madison on Tuesday before ending their week with a trip to Lennox at 7:30 on Thursday.
