HURON – The Flandreau boys were eighth and the girls ended up 13th in the Class A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Broadland Creek.
Senior David Allen earned All-State honors.
Allen placed 15th in the 5K with a time of 17 minutes, 26.54 seconds.
“David finished 15th and was our first medalist since Dylan Erickson finished 18th in 2014,” said Head Coach Brendan Streitz.
“His finish is the 12th best boys finish at the State Meet in the School’s 54 year Cross Country history.”
Rounding out the Fliers’ team score, Liam Streitz (18:35.9) took 57th, Austin Kulm (18:37.54) crossed in 58th and Gabriel Hobbie (18:59.99) finished 76th.
Also for Flandreau, Lars Dailey (19:05.38) ended up 85th and Samuel Gassman (19:26.03) was 104th.
The Fliers totaled 140 team points in eighth. Streitz was proud of his team.
“Every (Flier) boy who ran placed higher this season than last season at the state meet,” added Streitz.
Flandreau Indian School’s Marshall Dog Eyes (17:41:93) was 22nd.
Sioux Falls Christian won with 40 points and Vermillion was second at 57.
Belle Fourche freshman Sawyer Clarkson was medalist with a 16:25.14 clocking.
Lily Klein paced the Fliers, taking 35th in a time of 21:01.93.
“Lily’s 35th place was the 11th best finish by a (Flier) girl at State,” said Streitz.
Josie Hamilton (21:56.43) was 73rd, Hannah Parsley (22:28.87) 88th and Reese Olinger (22:29.51) 89th to complete the team tally.
Also for Flandreau, Sadie Iott (22:29.59) finished 90th and Lizzie Pavlis (23:12.85) 110th.
The Fliers had 200 points in 13th.
Custer (28) and Hill City (69) were 1-2 in the team standings.
Lennox freshman Ali Bainbridge won in 18:54.63.
