GARRETSON – The Flandreau boys took second and the girls were third at the Region 2A Cross Country Meet on Thursday.
“This the only the second time in school history that both teams have qualified for the State Meet the same year. The first time was last season,” said Head Coach Brendan Streitz.
The top three teams and top 20 individuals in both races qualified for the Class A State Cross Country Meet, to be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at Broadland Creek in Huron.
Sioux Falls Christian put all six of its runners in the top eight – including four in the top five – to cruise to take the team crown with 12 points.
The Fliers were second at 65.
The Chargers’ Isaac Engbers topped the 56-runner field in the 5K with a time of 16 minutes, 49.81 seconds.
David Allen paced the Fliers with a 17:16.12 clocking, putting him in third.
Austin Kulm placed 17th in 18:26.75. Liam Streitz crossed in 20th in 18:42.29.
Lars Dailey rounded out the team tally, taking 28th in 19:20.71.
Also for Flandreau, Gabriel Hobbie (19:26.69) was 30th and Samuel Gassman (19:56.61) 37th.
The Fliers totaled 49 points in third. Sioux Falls Christian (26) was first and Garretson (31) second.
Hannah Parsley (20:56.66) and Lily Klein (20:59.28) were eighth and ninth, respectively.
Josie Hamilton (21:39.83) took 20th and Sadie Iott (22:23.91) ended up 25th to complete the team score.
Also for Flandreau, Reese Olinger (22:40.33) was 26th and Lizzie Pavlis (22:53.55) 28th.
The Chargers’ Taryn Whisler won the 5K in 19:51.39.
