Bob O’Brien, 73, of Trent, South Dakota, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD. The family will greet friends for visitation one hour prior to the memorial service.
Bob was born in Brookings, South Dakota on May 22, 1949 to Frank and Eleanor (Earley) O’Brien. He grew up and received his education in Rapid City, SD. As a child he loved playing baseball; also, he was a lifelong Red Sox fan and followed them his whole life. He made many hand-tooled leather goods and enjoyed gifting them to family and friends. During his stint in the Army, he served in the Vietnam war. Above all, Bob loved his family and loved spending time with all of them, especially his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sisters, Bonnie Waite, Firestone, CO, Kathy (Rocky) Basler, Spokane, WA, and Linda Boyd, Casper, WY; brother, Mike (Pat) O’Brien, Sugar Land, TX; sisters-in-law, Betty Martens, Sioux Falls, Pat Kanz, Flandreau, and Jan Bos, Edgerton, MN; brothers-in-law, Michael (Deanna) Corcoran, Flandreau, Thomas (Barb) Corcoran, Flandreau, Dennis (Heather) Corcoran, Flandreau, Greg (Laurie) Corcoran, Apache Junction, AZ, and Ray Corcoran, Flandreau; stepdaughter, Laurie Christensen, Sioux Falls; grandsons, Jace (Sage) Jacobs, Laramie, WY and Zane Sampson, Tiffin Iowa; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, parents Frank and Eleanor O’Brien, sister, Sharon Sandstedt, nephews Frank Boyd, Tom Durst and Jim Sandstedt; stepson, Jason Zabel; stepdaughter Lisa Jacobs and stepson-in-law, Steve Jacobs; brother-in-law, Roy Corcoran, and sister-in-law LaVonne Corcoran.
