Beverly Anne Schwing, age 89, Brookings, SD passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019, at the United Living Community in Brookings.

Beverly Anne Daniels was born August 29, 1930, near Sherburn in Martin County, MN, to Joseph Harold and Elsie (Ott) Daniels.  The oldest of twelve children, Beverly attended Jay Center rural school and Sherburn Elementary School until the family moved to a farm near Arco, MN in March of 1942.  She completed her education at Arco and Ivanhoe schools.  Beverly worked at First National Bank in Ivanhoe for eight years as a bookkeeper, teller and auditor.  She later worked for sixteen years in the Lincoln County ASCS Office. On November 9, 1974, Beverly was united in holy matrimony to Sebastian Schwing at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe, MN.  Sebastian was a widower with seven children, all of whom became the joy and focus of her life.

Beverly cherished being a mom, as it allowed her to share her passions by teaching her children to knit, crochet, and sew 4-H projects.  Beverly was passionate about building community; she thoroughly enjoyed hosting events, holidays and family reunions, and never missed a family birthday.  She greeted others with a warm smile and cheerful spirit, making sure that everyone attending was welcomed and well-fed.  Events were not complete without Beverly taking a commemorative photo to document the time together.  A natural historian at heart, Beverly spent countless hours researching and learning family genealogy.  Additionally, she dedicated a lot of her time to the Elkton Museum, edited the Lincoln County Centennial Book in 1973, and was co-editor of the parish centennial history for Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Elkton in 1979. Beverly liked reading a good book, organizing a good Easter egg hunt, tending to her garden, to playing a game of Scrabble, and cooking and baking, Beverly’s greatest joy in life came from her family. She especially loved being with her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. Beverly will be remembered fondly for her generous love of family, and for keeping history alive in the hearts of many.

Beverly is survived by her loving husband: Sebastian, of Brookings; six children: Cecilia (Ron) Cheney, Brookings; Dorothy (Joe) Popowski, Ann (Joe) Pavek, both of Ivanhoe, MN; Laura Schwing, Shakopee, MN; Edwin Schwing, Las Vegas, NV; and Elsie Schwing (Chris McCree), Brookings; son-in-law, Ron VanDenBroeke, Custer, SD; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five siblings: David (Karen) Daniels, Rochester, MN; Tom Daniels, Arco, MN; Laurel (Houston) Meriwether, Nazareth, PA; Steve (Dana) Daniels, Maplewood, MN; and Daryl Daniels, San Francisco, CA; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria VanDenBroeke; granddaughter, Allison VanDenBroeke; grandson, Anthony VanDenBroeke; parents, five brothers:  Richard, Robert, James, Donald and Joseph and one sister, Jeanne.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, Brookings. Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Elkton. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Brookings.  Skroch Funeral Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
