Betty A. Kringen, 86, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Avera Flandreau Hospital in Flandreau. Betty Ann Berg Kringen was born September 15, 1930 at Colman, S.D., to Oscar and Ethel (Shadduck) Berg. She attended rural schools, junior high in Brookings, S.D. and graduated from Colman High School in 1948. Betty married Leon Hoss January 14, 1950, and they farmed until his death October 18, 1964. Betty moved into Flandreau, S.D. in February 1965 and she worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Ahlers Body Shop. In December 1965, she started working as a clerk at the Flandreau Post Office. Betty married Eugene Kringen September 30, 1966, and they lived in Flandreau. In 1984, Betty retired after working at the post office for 19 years. Her husband preceded her in death June 22, 1993. Betty was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. Betty is survived by three sons, Jim Hoss, Stevensville, Mich.; Jerry (Cindy) Hoss, Brookings; David Kringen, Mitchell; three daughters, Joan (Bob) Handberg, Jasper, Minn.; Catherine (Bryan Bortnem) Hoss, Rutland; Diane (Jamie) Field, Lakeville, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, Leon and Eugene, daughter Carol, daughter-in-law Pam, son-in-law Jay, her parents, sister Ruby and four brothers, Eugene, Don, Clifford and Howard.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. Visitation is 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, with a 7 p.m. scripture service. www.skrochfc.com
