A's drop two Cornbelt games

The Colman A’s capped off a tough week with a 6-1 loss to the Dell Rapids Mudcats as the Mudcats won the Cornbelt League with the win. Earlier in the week, the A’s fell 4-1 to Madison.

Colman (10-4, 8-4 Cornbelt) finish up a suspended game with PBR on Wednesday in Colman before traveling to Dell Rapids on Thursday with another matchup with PBR.

Dell Rapids 6, Colman 1

The Mudcats got on the scoreboard with an unearned run in the third inning but Colman matched it in the sixth when Billy Stitz led off with a single, stole second and scored on Deon Entringer’s one-out single.

Dell Rapids took advantage of four errors in the top of the ninth to get three batters on base – all who eventually scored – before coming up with two more hits en route to five runs.

Colin Karst earned the complete-game win for the Mudcats as he gave up five hits.

Entringer suffered the loss – with all six unearned runs charged to him – as he gave up nine hits and struck out seven in 8 2/3 innings of work. Paul Curtis got the final out on a strikeout.

Madison 4, Colman 1

Aaron Entringer led off the seventh with a single and eventually scored on Ian Barker’s sacrifice fly to stake the A’s to a 1-0 lead.

But Madison came back with three runs in the seventh, and then, tacked on an insurance run in the eighth for the win.

Marcus Heemstra suffered the loss as he gave up four runs – three earned – on four hits with nine strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. Deon Entringer struck out the final two batters in relief.

Chris Brozik earned the win as he tossed seven innings and gave up the one run. Mitch McNary earned the save with two shutout innings.
