On March 1, the Flandreau Flower Shoppe celebrated 20 years in business. After previously being involved in a group of five that did a Christmas boutique, Donna Stenberg and Kathy Jacobs decided to leave after 10 years.
They were presented with the opportunity to purchase the flower shop, which was for sale. The two opened the store as a partnership and five years later Stenberg bought Jacobs out.
Stenberg said she had personally always wanted a shop as her college education was in horticulture.
She said they have constantly been striving to update the shop by bringing the historic building back to its natural beauty and adding antiques. They also added on another building to the east, buying the video store and remodeling that to add more square footage.
The flower shop is consistently busy during all holidays, especially Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and graduations in May.
Since the sixth grade, Stenberg’s daughter Sarah Dahlmeier has helped out at the store. After receiving her business degree, she came back.
“She’s great as far as design and customer service,” Stenberg said. “It’s just been great to have her here and see her grow. She’s been here almost 20 years too.”
Stenberg and the Flandreau Flower Shoppe would like to thank the people of Moody County and the area for supporting their business for the past 20 years.
The flower shop is open Monday through Friday 9:30-5 p.m. and Saturday 9:30-1:30 p.m.
