Wiese, Hamilton, Westberry, Gassman all head to State XC

SIOUX FALLS – The Flandreau Fliers just missed out on qualifying as teams for the Class A State Cross Country meet this weekend.
The Flier girls came in fourth at the Region 2A Meet at Yankton Trail Park with 62 points and the boys’ finished fourth with 87 points.  The meet was held Wednesday, Oct. 11.
However, the Fliers did have four runners qualify for the State Meet, two girls and two boys.
Girls
Faith Wiese came in second with a time of 18:19.0 and Josie Hamilton came in 20th (20:17.8) and will both run the same course Saturday at the Class A Meet.

Other results for the girls were Kiley Westberry coming in 21st (20:24.0) and Diamond Roy finished in 22nd (20:44.9). Morgan Sheppard came in 34th (22:48.6) and Nora Hamilton came in 42nd (23:34.2).
The Cossacks’ Isabelle Bloker won her fourth consecutive race with a time of 17:56.8.
Sioux Falls Christian was the top team as the Chargers had 18 points. Sioux Valley was second with 44 points and West Central was the other team to qualify as the Trojans came in third with 54 points.

Boys
Flandreau finished just outside the top three teams on the boys’ side as well as the Fliers came in fourth with 87 points. Sioux Falls Christian won with 16 points, West Central was second at 38 points and Tea Area was third with 59.
Levi Vander Leest won the race in the time of 16:02.1.
The Fliers had two runners qualify for State as Brenton Westberry came in 15th (17:55.1) and Matthew Gassman finished in 19th (18:03.2). Gassman is the lone Flier senior who will be running at State.
Tanner Reed just missed qualifying for State as he came in 26th (18:49.8). Logan Kontz and Wyatt Kontz came 29th and 30th as they each had a time of 18:58.5. Nathaniel Hobbie was the final runner for Flandreau and he came in 53rd (20:33.5).
