Two Conference titles in a week

The Flier boys won both the Lake Central Conference and the Big East Conference cross country meets last week.
LCC Meet
CLARK – Flandreau won the team portion on the boys’ side of the LCC meet with the low 12 points.
Brenton Westberry came in second place with a time of 18:45.73. The Fliers had four other runners come in the top 10.
Matthew Gassman came in fourth (19:01.10) and Tanner Reed came in sixth (19:23.36). Wyatt Kontz and Logan Kontz finished in eighth (19:40.45) and ninth (19:50.96), respectively. Nathaniel Hobbie came in 17th (20:56.44) for the Fliers.
In the team standings, Clark/Willow Lake came in second (20). Sioux Valley was third with 25 points, Deuel came in fourth (31) and De Smet rounded out the field, coming in fifth (58).
The Sioux Valley girls’ cross country team won the Lake Central Conference Meet on Monday at the Clark Golf Course. The Cossacks had 12 points. Flandreau came in third as a team and had 22 points.
Flier sophomore Faith Wiese came in second with a time of 18:59.37. Josie Hamilton was the other top 10 finisher for the Fliers and she came in seventh (21:13.85). Kiley Westberry came in 13th (22:14.67) and Diamond Roy came in 16th (22:59.60). Nora Hamilton finished in 19th (24:01.36) and Morgan Sheppard rounded things out for the Fliers, coming in 21st (24:57.38).

Isabelle Bloker of Sioux Valley, won the race with a time of 18:06.66.
In the team standings, Clark/Willow Lake came in second (20), Deuel came in fourth (42) and De Smet came in fifth (55).

BEC Meet
SALEM – In a cool and extremely windy day for running, the Flier boys cross country team ran well enough to grab their second conference title in a week as the won the Big East Conference Cross Country Meet. The meet was held Thursday, Oct. 5 at McCook Country Club.
Flandreau and Beresford tied in team points with 31 each, but Flandreau’s fifth runner into the chute helped push the Fliers to the title.
The Fliers were led by Tanner Reed who came in fifth place with a time of 18:21.71. Matthew Gassman and Brenton Westberry also finished in the top 10. Gassman came in seventh (18:35.60) and Westberry came in eighth (18:39.23). Logan Kontz came in 12th (18:49.66) and Wyatt Kontz finished in 18th (19:13.67).
Sioux Valley’s Carson Wosje won the individual race with a time of 17:34.30.

The Fliers girls took home second place in the BEC team running with 25 points.
Flandreau’s Faith Wiese finished in second with a time of 18:16.06 and Kiley Westeberry came in fourth (20:02.58). Josie Hamilton and Diamond Roy finished 10th (21:09.36) and 11th (21:26.60), respectively. Nora Hamilton was the final runner for the Fliers and she came in 19th (22:57.18).
The Sioux Valley Cossacks had 19 points to win the event. Isabelle Bloker won her third consecutive race as she came in first with a time of 17:55.10.
Chester came in third with 43 points and Baltic came in fourth with 59 points.
The Fliers next meet is the Region 2A Meet on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls. Top 20 advance to the State Meet, also to be held in Sioux Falls.
