We showed a photo this past week of work being done on a new playground outside of the  Moody County Boys & Girls Club. That playground was officially dedicated this past week with a ribbon cutting.
“The kids LOVE it,” said Executive Director Hailey Adams. “When we did our ribbon cutting…they were super excited. You should have heard it, it was just pure joy. We have a lot of younger kids right now, they’re really enjoying it.”
Installed, she said, were a couple of slides, a jungle gym, swings, a sound area that includes bongo drums, and a rubber floor that’s really bouncy. It may seem like the new playground is just for fun, but Adams said that the new playground was very much needed.

“It was dangerous for the kids to cross the street all the time to use the schools’ playground, so for safety reasons we decided to build one on site. It provides a fun safe place for them to play right on the property, we also have cameras so it’s easier and safer for the kids and staff,” she said.
The playground was funded by the GREER Grant which the Club was awarded in 2021. Ramsdell’s and Big Al’s also donated time and services in order to make sure the project was completed quickly for local youth and the community.
Adams wanted to be sure to mention that the Club also started its summer food programming. Any and all school-age children are welcome during the week for breakfast and lunch. It is free and available until 12:30 p.m., the kids do not have to be a member of the club. The breakfast and lunch program is funded through a state grant.
