Vermilion led after round one and the Tanagers hung on to win the Class A title with a score of 642 held Oct. 2-3 at Hart Ranch Golf Course in Rapid City.
Flandreau had three golfers qualify for the State Tournament and the Fliers had a top-10 finisher in Kaden Burshiem. Burshiem had a total score of 158, which was 14 over par and finished him tied for ninth. Alfie Henderson tied for 33rd (+26) and Jon Burshiem came in 89th (+61).
“Kaden started off hot and continued that throughout the day,” said head coach Justin Kelm.
“He made a strong push towards the top of the pack and finished the day tied for 9th. Being able to finish in the top 10 at the state meet is quite an accomplishment.”

Kelm also said that Jon Burshiem and Henderson worked hard at the meet.
“The second day, Jon struggled a bit but continued to play hard and finished the day off with excitement for wanting to make it back to state golf next year.”
“Alfie played strong and continued to push the leaders but fell just out of medal contention by three strokes,” Kelm said.
West Central’s Anthony Lanham shot one under par and won the individual tournament. Vincent VanLiere of St. Thomas More came in second (+1) and Dakota Munger of Chamberlain came in third (+7). Vermillion’s Cooper Girard came in fourth (+10) and Carter Langle finished in fifth (+11).
