Hawks split in DH

Colman-Egan played a doubleheader in basketball on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Howard. The Hawk girls won, but the boys fell short.

HOWARD – The  Lady Hawks took an early lead and pulled away in the final quarter to beat the Tigers on December 19. Final score was 52-44.
Colman-Egan led 20-12 at the end of the first quarter before Howard cut the lead to 28-23 at halftime. The Hawks held on to a 35-30 lead at the end of the third quarter before out-scoring the Tigers 17-14 in the fourth quarter.
Kaylee Voelker knocked down five 3-pointers and had a game-high 24 points for the Hawks. Presley Luze and Elaina Rhode both put in seven counters. Brynlee Landis gave out four assists and led the team with nine rebounds. T
As a team, the Hawks shot 43 percent from the field and held the Tigers to 28 percent.

Abby Aslesen and Tana Hoyer had nine points each for the Tigers while Liz Albrecht had eight points.
The girls team will be at the Freeman Classic on December 28 with an opponent not available by press time.

The boys team lost to Howard 70-38 when the  Tigers went on an explosive second half run outscoring the visitors, 42-19.
Howard won all quarter stops, 11-7, 28-19, 50-30 and 70-38.
The Hawks shooting came in at a cool 28 percent while the Tigers netted 56 percent of their shots taken.
The Mousel brothers, Jase and Jack, each scored nine points for the Hawks followed by seven from Jackson Zwart.
Jase Mousel and Jackson Wright both brought down eight rebounds.
The Tigers used threeplayers in double digits. Luke Koepsell led all scorers with 22 points, and Kolt Koepsell and Logan Mentele put in 12 and 11 respectively.
The 2-2 Hawks will face cross county Flandreau, also 2-2, at the 30th Michael J. Entringer Classic on Saturday, Dec. 30 in at 1:30 p.m. game at Brookings High School.
