Hawks defeat B-E and Howard advance to SoDak 16

The Colman-Egan Hawks advanced to the SoDak 16 with wins over Bridgewater-Emery and Howard last week.
Colman-Egan is the number 12 seed and will face number 5 seed Wall on Thursday, February 29, at the Stanley County High School in Ft. Pierre. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

SALEM – Brynlee Landis scored a game-high 27 points to help the Hawks defeat Howard for a spot in the Class B SoDak 16 on Thursday night.

The Tigers led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter and 24-21 at halftime but C-E cut the lead down to 33-32 at the end of the third quarter and out-scored the Tigers 17-10 in the fourth quarter to advance.
Landis added nine rebounds, an assist and a steal in the win while Kaylee Voelker had 12 points, three rebounds and two steals. Presley Luze had five points, two steals and a rebound.
C-E shot 31 percent from the floor including 3-of-12 (25%) on 3-pointers. The Hawks made 16-of-26 (61.5%) free throws and committed 11 turnovers.
Elizabeth Albrecht had 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist for the Tigers while Dakota Spader had 11 points and two assists. Abby Aslesen had seven points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and an assist.
Howard shot 25 percent in the game and 4-of-22 (18.2%) on 3-pointers. The Tigers made 9-of-13 (69.2%) free throws, committed 17 turnovers and out-rebounded the Hawks 49-31.

COLMAN – Strong first and third quarters were able to lift the Hawks to the victory in the opening round.
Colman-Egan led 18-13 after the first period. The Huskies then outscored the Hawks 10-6 in the second quarter and C-E led 24-23 at halftime. The Hawks were then able to pull away in the third, outscoring the Huskies 16-8 in the quarter and led 40-31 heading into the fourth. They then held a 6-4 advantage in the final quarter and advanced to the semifinals.
The Hawks shot a cool 25.9% from the field and were 9-of-28 from three. Kaylee Voelker led the Hawks with 19 points and four rebounds. Brynlee Landis had 13 points. Presley Luze had nine points and three steals, The Hawks had 11 steals as a team.
Bridgewater-Emery shot 26.2% from the field and was 6-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Huskies were led by Oakley Weber who had 14 points and five rebounds. Summer Koch had eight points and nine rebounds.
