Dennis Henry Hahn, 85, of Flandreau, SD, passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 6, 2023, at Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau, SD.
Funeral services were held April 11, 2023 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau with burial at Union Cemetery.
Dennis Hahn was born April 1, 1938 in Madison, SD to Henry and Pearl (Bachman) Hahn. He attended country school in Elkton and later moved to Flandreau, where he finished his schooling.
After school he worked for Albert Moore in Flandreau doing shingling and roofing. A few years later, he met Shirley Johnson in Dell Rapids and they were married April 7, 1957 in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Sioux Falls for a few years before moving to Flandreau, where they resided for the rest of their lives. To this union, 5 children were born: Nancy, Doug, David, Tammy, and Kim.
In 1964, he started working for Gerald Johnson Plastering and Drywall out of Sioux Falls. He would go on to work there for 39 years, retiring in 2003. One of the highlights in his career at Gerald Johnson Plastering and Drywall was being an instrumental part in the construction of the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.
Dennis’s greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They would light up his world and the kids loved him right back. He also enjoyed his trucks and cars. He enjoyed talking about them with anyone who would lend an ear and bonded with his grandsons over cars. You could easily find him tinkering on his trucks and cars in his garage or watching his favorite Westerns.
Dennis is survived by three children; Nancy (Lester) Van Dyke, Kim (Terry) Welbig, both of Flandreau; and Tammy Hahn, Vienna, West Virginia; nine grandchildren, Crystal (Tandy) Workman, Corey (Lacey) Van Dyke, Daniel Hahn, Alyssa Hahn, Trevor Hahn, Brian (Jenna) Welbig, Cody (Kristy) Welbig, Makayla (Patrick) Bamburg, and Robbie (Michelle) Hahn; and 11 great-grandchildren, Carson, Eleahna, Caedon and Colton Van Dyke; Drevyn, Torrah and Everlee Hahn; Saelac, Tamaron, and Corinthia Hahn; and Anna Welbig.
Dennis was preceded in death by an infant son, David; son, Doug; his wife of 63 years, Shirley; infant great-grandson, Nash; grandson, Brenden; his parents; and his sister, Darlene.
