VOLGA – Sioux Valley improved to 8-1 on the season after the Cossacks swept a doubleheader against Colman-Egan on Tuesday, April 23. The Cossacks won game one 13-5 and followed that with a 6-3 victory in game two.
Colman-Egan dropped to a season record of 2-5.

VOLGA – Sioux Valley improved to 8-1 on the season after the Cossacks swept a doubleheader against Colman-Egan on Tuesday, April 23. The Cossacks won game one 13-5 and followed that with a 6-3 victory in game two.
Colman-Egan dropped to a season record of 2-5.
Game One
Sioux Valley 13, Colman-Egan 5
An 11-run third inning from the Cossacks proved to be the difference in the first game.
Neither team scored in the first inning and Sioux Valley led 1-0 after the second. Abby Axtell led off the bottom of the second with a single and Zayle Lantgen followed that with a single of her own. Morgan Lemme then came to the plate with one out and drove Axtell home with a ground out to give the Cossacks a one-run lead heading into the third.
The Hawks then gained the lead in the top of the third as they scored three runs with two outs. Colman-Egan’s Addy Giegel drew a walk and then scored on a fielder’s choice from Maebe Groos. Lanie Mousel then hit a triple and Kaitlyn Taggart hit her home with a triple to make it 3-1 heading into the bottom of the inning.
Sioux Valley then blew the game open. Kassidy Smith started the big inning with an RBI single. Axtell then came to the plate with two runners on and hit a two-run double. The Cossacks scored two more runs on an error Lemme hit an RBI single to make it 7-3. Two more runs from errors and RBI singles from Ameilia Jacobson and Axtell made it 12-3 heading into the fourth.
Game Two
Sioux Valley 6, Colman-Egan 3
The Cossacks scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead and then shut down the Hawks in the final half inning of game two.
Colman-Egan jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Karissa Williams hit a one-out single and then came around to score on a single from Mousel. Mousel then scored on a single from Giegel and that gave the Hawks a two-run advantage.
