Colman-Egan, Flandreau pick up home wins

Hawks, Fliers earn victories while Arlington falls at home to Chester

The high school basketball schedule is winding down as Colman-Egan and Flandreau earned wins while Arlington fell at home in Tuesday’s area boys basketball action.

Colman-Egan 83, Mitchell Christian 68

COLMAN – The Hawks led 19-18 at the end of the first quarter and went into halftime with a 38-29 lead. C-E extended its lead to 60-43 at the end of the third quarter before Mitchell Christian won the fourth quarter 25-23.

The Hawks had four players in double figures including Jackson Zwart who had a team-high 25 points to go with 12 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. Jase Mousel had 20 points while Taylor Kriech had 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal and Jack Mousel had 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Aiden Lieber led Mitchell Christian with 50 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Luke Mentele also had 12 points, two assists, two rebounds and two steals.

C-E shot 57 percent in the game including 8-for-23 (34.8%) on 3-pointers. The Hawks made 5-of-9 (62.5%) free throws, committed 16 turnovers and out-rebounded Mitchell Christian 35-22.

The Hawks improved to 8-10 with the win and will host Canistota on Friday night.

Flandreau 62, Baltic 52

FLANDREAU – The Fliers led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 25-24 going into halftime. Baltic extended its lead to 41-33 at the end of the third quarter before Flandreau rallied to out-score the Bulldogs 29-11 in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.

Luke Sheppard had 22 points and 10 rebounds while Kaden Burshiem had 12 points. Trevor Cuperus led Baltic with 11 points and Jack Erickson had 10 points in the loss.

Flandreau improved to 12-7 and will wrap up the regular season when they travel to Deubrook Area on Monday night.

Chester 59, Arlington 41

ARLINGTON – The Flyers took a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 27-19 lead into halftime. Arlington won the third quarter 14-13 to cut the lead down to 41-32 but Chester out-scored the Cardinals 19-8 in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.

Paxton Rheault led Arlington with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Brecken Vossler had six points while Tommy Bacon had five points for the Cardinals.

Arlington shot 37 percent in the game including 6-of-19 (31.6%) on 3-pointers. The Cardinals made 5-of-9 (55.6%) free throws, committed 28 turnovers and were out-rebounded 35-33.

The Cardinals fell to 3-15 and will host Howard on Friday night.
