Hawks open up season indoors

Just after extremely warm winter weather and just before the arrival of a spring “snow event” the Colman-Egan Hawks took to a couple indoor track and field meets to open the 2024 season.
They first attended the annual Dan Lennon Relays in Vermillion on march 19 where three Hawks placed in the top five.
Daniela Lee opened up her senior sprint season taking third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.11.
The Mousel twins, Jack and Jase, were place winner in the field event. Jack took fourth in high jump at 5’11” and Jase was fifth in the triple jump leaping 11.93 meters.

Other top eight place winners were seventh grader Quinn Meyer jumping to a seventh place in the high jump leapoing 4”11. A pair of relay teams also placed. The medley team of Lanie Mousel, Presley Luze, Finley Luze and Brynlee Landis were seventh with their time of 4:44.94 and the 4x400 relay team of Presley Luze, Elaina Rhode, Finley Luze and Landis took eighth, 4:36.59.
Two days later, the athletes were in Yankton for the Mount Marty Invite.
Meyer was the top finisher going 5’ in the high jump for the girls. Lee was third in the 60 meter dash at 8.04 and Presley Luze took fifth in the 800 meter run turning in a time of 2:37.1.
Two relay teams both placed fifth. The 4x200 team of Rhode, Mousel, Finley Luze and Lee ran a time of 1:55.61 and the 4x400 team of Rhode, Presley Luze, Landis and Finley Luze turned in a time of 4:34.23.
For the boys team, Jace Mousele was third in the triple jumping with a leap of 39’3” and Jack Mousel took fourth in the high jump at 6 feet even.
Running the 4x200 meter relay were Mikano Lee, Jack Mousel, Tyce Ryan and Jase Mousel with their time of 1:40.67.
